In the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Annual Energy Outlook 2020 (AEO2020) Reference case, U.S. energy consumption grows more slowly than gross domestic product throughout the projection period (2050) as U.S. energy efficiency continues to increase. This decline in the energy intensity of the U.S. economy continues through 2050. Solar power is a trend, no doubt about that. But how fast will it really spread? We all know the importance of sustainable power sources, but is it reasonable to expect that the switch to green energy will be painless? In this article, I'll try to answer the question "What we can expect to happen in the US related to solar energy in the near (and not so near) future?".Where are we now? EIA’s January 2019 Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) forecasts that electricity generation from utility-scale solar generating units will grow by 10% in 2019 and by 17% in 2020. According to the January STEO, wind generation will grow by 12% and 14% during the next two years. Future outlook with regards to hybrid RE systems of solar PV-wind, as well as prospects of solar energy for driving newer processes such as forward osmosis and dewvaporation in terms of energy savings have also been considered. A few gaps in literature regarding the aspects covered in this survey have been identified. The Future of Solar Energy considers only the two widely recognized classes of technologies for converting solar energy into electricity — photovoltaics (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP), sometimes called solar thermal) — in their current and plausible future forms. By installing solar panels, donating to research organizations involved in alternative energies, taking a university degree in a related subject, and voting for measures promoting alternative energy development, anyone can have a say the future of solar A number of technical problems affecting renewable energy research are also highlighted, along with beneficial interactions between regulation policy frameworks and their future prospects. In order to help open novel routes with regard to solar energy research and practices, a future roadmap for the field of solar research is discussed.
