The BitMEX Weekly Historical Bitcoin Volatility Index is referred to as the .BVOL7D Index. This index is calculated logarithmic percentage change taken from measurements taken on the XBTUSD spot price every minute. The settlement price is calculated from 10080 snaps over the 7-day period (1440 per day). Each BitMEX index price is calculated as a weighted average of the Last Price for each constituent exchange. Index prices are calculated and published every 5 seconds. How are the weights calculated? For an index with 3 or more constituents, if any constituent’s price is X% away from the median price, that constituent will be removed until BitMEX manually reinstates it. For an index with 2 constituents , if any constituent’s price is (X% / 2) away from the currently calculated index value, the index value published will be the last calculated index value.
